Teramind Alternative
User activity monitoring, insider risk management and data loss prevention.
Time Tracking Tools: side-by-side
These fall in three rough camps: Timesheets for billing, employee monitoring, and productivity. DoneThat focuses on the latter.
| Tool | Fully automated | Input data | Privacy‑first | Timesheets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Remote work's missing piece Best for: Productivity-focused tracking without any work. | Yes | Screen-first for highest accuracy | Yes | CSV exports but not meant for billing |
User activity monitoring, insider risk management and data loss prevention. Best for: Security and compliance teams that need DLP, insider-risk detection or session recordings. | Yes, from login | Screen, keystrokes, email, files, AI chats, 15+ channels | No: screen recording on every plan, keystrokes from UAM | Active and idle time |
Teramind is best for
Security and compliance teams that need DLP, insider-risk detection or session recordings.

Teramind: pricing and platforms
- Starting price
- $15 per seat per month, or $14 billed annually (Starter), 5-seat minimum
- Free tier
- No free plan; free trial with no credit card required
- Platforms
- Windows, Windows Server, macOS, Linux, Citrix and VMware Horizon, Web dashboard
- Worth knowing
- Per seat per month in US dollars, monthly or billed annually: Starter $15 or $14, UAM $30 or $28, DLP $35 or $32; Enterprise & Government is custom. Annual saves about 8%, is paid upfront and is non-refundable; monthly can be canceled at any time. 200+ seats goes to sales. Teramind shows prices in the visitor's currency: the dollar figures are PricingSaaS's capture of 2 November 2026, and Teramind's own price feed, read from the Netherlands on 4 November 2026, returned EUR 12, 25 and 30 a month on the same structure. Keystroke logging starts at UAM; OCR is Enterprise only.

What Teramind does well
- Real security capability: content-based DLP rules, sensitive content detection, redaction and automatic blocking on the DLP plan, with anomaly detection and risk scoring from UAM.
- Deployment choice few tools in this category offer: single-tenant cloud, on-premises in your own data center, or private cloud on AWS or Azure, with AWS GovCloud and Azure Government on Enterprise.
- Broad endpoint coverage: Windows and Windows Server, terminal servers, Citrix and VMware Horizon, macOS, and a Linux agent that became generally available in July 2026.
- AI governance: shadow AI discovery, generative AI data loss prevention and recording of conversations with AI tools.
- Privacy controls exist: recording limits by working hours and network, PII redaction, and a revealed agent that users must acknowledge during installation.
- Free trial with no credit card required, and monthly billing that can be canceled at any time.
Where Teramind falls short
- Screen recording and live view are on every plan, including Starter.
- UAM and above add keystroke logging, email, file transfer, camera usage, geolocation and online meeting monitoring, and Enterprise adds OCR of screen text.
- A stealth agent with no user interface is available to vetted customers: users are not asked to acknowledge it and cannot stop the monitoring.
- The administrator decides what is collected; risk scores and behavior baselines describe the person to someone else rather than serving them.
- 5-seat minimum, and keystroke logging, email and file transfer monitoring start at UAM, twice the Starter price.
- On Mac and Linux, Teramind itself says functionality is limited; there is no mobile agent listed, and no personal coaching for the person being monitored.

The short answer
Teramind is a security product as much as a productivity one. It describes itself as a workforce analytics and insider risk platform: it records screens on every plan, logs keystrokes from the UAM plan up, reads screen text with OCR on Enterprise, monitors email, file transfers and conversations with AI tools, and can block an action as it happens. Security, compliance and HR teams buy it to get evidence and control.
DoneThat is built the other way round. Screenshots are never stored, the person doing the work is the person the data serves, and a team sees the summaries people choose to share. If you need data loss prevention or insider-risk monitoring, Teramind does that and DoneThat does not do it at all. If you want a team that shares where the work went because people opted in, that is what DoneThat is for.
Looking for a Teramind alternative?
If you are a manager or an IT lead looking for one, you are usually after one of four things, and each leads to a different kind of tool.
Security, at a different price or with a different vendor. If DLP, insider-risk detection, blocking or audit trails are the reason you bought Teramind, the alternatives are other security and insider-risk platforms, not DoneThat. Of the tools we compare on this site, Insightful also lists insider threat detection, but it is a workforce analytics tool first.
Productivity monitoring with less capture. If you mainly used Teramind to see time, apps and activity, keystroke logging, OCR and DLP rules may be more than you need. ActivTrak makes screenshots a paid add-on; Hubstaff, Time Doctor, Insightful and Monitask are compared on the same terms as this page.
Team visibility without monitoring. If you are leaving because recording everything hurt trust, or because nobody had time to watch the recordings, DoneThat is the alternative we built. What a lead gets:
- Summaries, not session playback. Each person's day is reconstructed automatically and turned into a written summary of what they worked on.
- Sharing the person controls. Visibility is set per summary: private, team, org or public. Nobody is recorded into a manager's dashboard by default.
- Relative trends instead of per-person hours, so the data starts a conversation rather than a risk score.
- Optional mood tracking, so the early signal is burnout risk rather than activity volume.
- Summaries in Slack and Discord, where the team already talks.
What you give up, stated plainly: no screen recording, no keystroke logs, no DLP or blocking, no insider-risk alerts, no on-premises option and no proof about an individual. The team reporting surface is smaller than Teramind's too. We argue the approach, not the breadth.
No software at all. Written weekly updates and outcome goals cost nothing and work if people write them. Our weekly status report template and the case for remote trust as a signal problem cover that route.
Credit where it is due
Teramind does work that no other tool on this site does, and that deserves saying before anything else.
Real data loss prevention. The DLP plan adds content-based rules, sensitive content detection, redaction and automatic blocking, and UAM adds anomaly detection, dynamic risk scoring and SIEM integration. For a regulated organization these are requirements, not features.
Deployment choice. Cloud runs as a single-tenant instance with its own database. You can also deploy on-premises in your own data center, or in a private cloud on AWS or Azure, and Enterprise adds AWS GovCloud and Azure Government. Few tools in this category offer that.
Broad endpoint coverage. Windows 10 and newer, Windows Server 2016 and newer, terminal servers, Citrix and VMware Horizon, macOS Monterey and newer, and a Linux agent that became generally available in July 2026. Teramind notes that Mac and Linux have limited functionality.
AI governance. Shadow AI discovery, generative AI data loss prevention and recording of conversations with AI tools. If your worry is company data leaving through a chatbot, this is a direct answer to it.
Privacy controls exist. Teramind lists recording limits by working hours and by network, and PII redaction. Its revealed agent asks users to acknowledge it during installation.
Where it is an employer's tool, by design
The administrator decides what is recorded, and in Teramind that can be a great deal. Screen recording, live view and remote control are on every plan. From UAM up, Teramind adds keystrokes, email, file transfers, console commands, camera usage, geolocation and online meetings, across what it calls 15+ system channels. Enterprise adds OCR of screen text. Capture is automatic from login; there is no timer to start.
Teramind also offers a stealth agent with no user interface. Its documentation says users are not asked to acknowledge it, monitoring starts automatically when they log in, and it cannot be stopped by the user. It is available only to customers Teramind has vetted.
The output describes the person to someone else: risk scores, behavior baselines, active versus idle time and productivity rules. The person being monitored does not get "you spent nine hours this week in a recurring meeting that produces nothing". That is not the question the product asks.
On capture, DoneThat works the other way. Screenshots are never stored. They are processed in real time and immediately deleted; only derived structured activity persists. There is no keystroke logging. Excluded apps are redacted on your machine before anything is sent. With your own Gemini or OpenAI-compatible model, raw activity never reaches our servers. The desktop app is open source, so none of this has to be taken on trust.
The honest limit: DoneThat cannot prove anything about an individual, cannot block an action and has no DLP. If you need any of those, Teramind is built for it.
Pricing
Teramind pricing, as of 4 November 2026, per seat per month with a 5-seat minimum:
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $15 | $14 | Screen recording, live view, remote control, activity blocking, insider threat detection |
| UAM | $30 | $28 | Keystrokes, email, file transfers, camera, geolocation, online meetings, AI conversation recording, risk scoring |
| DLP | $35 | $32 | Content-based DLP rules, sensitive content detection, redaction, automatic blocking |
| Enterprise & Government | Custom | Custom | OCR, premium support and SLA, professional services, AWS GovCloud and Azure Government |
Teramind's pricing page shows prices in the visitor's currency. The dollar figures above are PricingSaaS's capture of 2 November 2026; Teramind's own price feed, read from the Netherlands on 4 November 2026, returned EUR 12, 25 and 30 a month for the same three plans. Annual billing saves about 8%, is paid upfront and is non-refundable; monthly billing can be canceled at any time. At 200 seats and above, the page sends you to sales. The free trial needs no credit card.
Two things to weigh. The minimum is five seats, so the smallest Starter account is $75 a month on monthly billing. And keystroke logging, email and file transfer monitoring start at UAM, twice the Starter price, while OCR comes only with Enterprise. Price the plan against the capability you actually need.
DoneThat is subscription-based with a 14-day free trial; current prices are on the DoneThat pricing page.

Where Teramind is the better choice
- You need data loss prevention or insider-risk detection. That is what the product is for.
- You have to block actions, not only see them.
- Compliance requires recordings or audit trails of what happened on a machine.
- You must self-host, or run in a government cloud.
- Your staff work on terminal servers or virtual desktops.
- You need to govern how staff use AI tools.
Where DoneThat is the better choice
- You want team visibility people opt into, built on summaries rather than recordings and risk scores.
- You want to understand the work rather than record it.
- You are the person being tracked, and you picked the tool.
- You want coaching during the work. Don nudges you onto goals, blocks calendar time, flags low-value work while you can still fix it, checks your mood, reminds you of meetings, suggests breaks.
- You want your own work history in your AI tools through MCP and an API.
How we compared these
Everything stated about Teramind comes from its pricing, features and home pages and its knowledge base, read on 4 November 2026 and linked below. The US dollar prices come from PricingSaaS's capture of 2 November 2026, because Teramind shows prices in the visitor's currency and we read it from the Netherlands. Claims about DoneThat are first-hand: we build it, which is the bias to read this with.
Teramind does security work DoneThat has no answer to, and its deployment options are broader than ours. The disagreement is about who the tool answers to, not about whether its monitoring works.

Result
DoneThat and Teramind both capture desktop activity, but Teramind is a security and insider-risk platform for employers while DoneThat is an automatic work tracker and AI coach for the person doing the work.
DoneThat stronger
- Better fit when the buyer wants captured work history to become coaching, goals, and AI context instead of recordings and risk scores.
- Screenshots are processed in real time and deleted, with no keystroke logging, and each person sets who sees their summaries.
- Broader AI workflow story around long-term memory, API, MCP, Zapier, n8n, and user control over what gets recorded and shared.
- Better fit when the person being tracked should choose and benefit from the tool.
Teramind stronger
- Stronger fit for data loss prevention, insider-risk detection, blocking risky actions, and audit trails.
- Offers on-premises, private cloud and government cloud deployment, and covers terminal servers, Citrix and VMware Horizon.
- Better match when compliance requires session recordings, keystroke logs, or evidence about individual users.
Questions people ask about Teramind
- Does Teramind log keystrokes?
- Yes, on the UAM, DLP and Enterprise plans; Starter does not include it. Teramind's own documentation says keystroke capture is limited on macOS (special and combination keys are not tracked) and that desktop password fields are not monitored on Linux. DoneThat has no keystroke logging, and screenshots are never stored: they are processed in real time and immediately deleted.
- Can Teramind monitor employees without them knowing?
- Teramind offers two agents. The revealed agent has a user interface and users must acknowledge it during installation. The stealth agent has no user interface, users are not asked to acknowledge it, monitoring starts when they log in, and Teramind's documentation says it cannot be stopped by the user. The stealth agent is available only to customers Teramind has vetted. Whether covert monitoring is lawful depends on where you and your staff are, so check before you deploy it.
- How much does Teramind cost?
- As of 4 November 2026, per seat per month with a 5-seat minimum: Starter $15 ($14 billed annually), UAM $30 ($28), DLP $35 ($32), and Enterprise & Government on request. Annual plans are paid upfront and are non-refundable. Teramind shows prices in the visitor's local currency, so check the pricing page from your own country.
- What is a good Teramind alternative for a team?
- It depends on why you bought Teramind. If you need DLP or insider-risk detection, the alternatives are other security platforms, not DoneThat. If you only need productivity monitoring, productivity-focused tools such as ActivTrak, Hubstaff or Time Doctor may be a closer fit, and we compare them on the same terms. If the monitoring itself is the problem, DoneThat is the alternative we built: it turns each person's day into a written summary, and each person sets who sees it (private, team, org or public). Teams share relative trends instead of per-person hours, mood tracking is optional, and screenshots are never stored. You give up recordings, keystroke logs, blocking and any proof about an individual.
